Digital handling and monitoring of cargo handling is becoming increasingly important so that liquid and gaseous goods can be handled and stored in harbours even more safely and environmentally friendly in the future. Over the next four years, the DigiTank project at Evos in Hamburg aims to research and test what this could look like. The project was launched on 16.01.25 in the presence of Hamburg's Senator for Economic Affairs, Dr Melanie Leonhard. ‘The tank farms in the Port of Hamburg play an important role in the energy supply far beyond the metropolitan region. The Port of Hamburg is a central transhipment centre, especially for new energies. A significant proportion of the energy sources required will be imported by sea. It is therefore important to position ourselves for the future with modern processes in order to continue to fulfil this important national task of the port safely and efficiently,’ said the Senator for Economic Affairs.
